Do you know that, even in your own home, the sun's UV rays can be damaging to your skin? That’s right, UV rays are present even when it’s cloudy or cold outside and you don't feel the heat of the sun on your skin. UV rays can cause premature aging and skin cancer, so it’s important to take steps to protect yourself from them. If you're wondering what you can do about it, here are eight ways to better protect yourself in your own home.

Put On Some Sunscreen

Being at home doesn’t mean you should let your guard down when it comes to protection from UV rays. In fact, putting on sunscreen even when you stay at home is one of the most important things you can do for protection. Sunscreen helps to block out the sun's harmful rays, and it should be applied liberally to all exposed skin. It is important to choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. This will help to ensure that your skin is protected from both UVA and UVB rays.

Wear Protective Clothing.

Another way to protect yourself from UV rays is to wear protective clothing. Long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats can all help to block out the sun's harmful rays. If you are going to be in the sun for an extended period, it is also a good idea to wear UV-resistant clothing. This clothing is specifically designed to provide protection from UV rays.

Limit Your Time in the Sun.

There are certain times of day when the sun's UV rays are at their strongest. These hours are typically between ten in the morning and four in the afternoon. If you have to stay outdoors during these times, take measures to protect your skin. This includes wearing sunscreen and clothing that covers your arms and legs.

Seek Some Shade.

One more way to reduce your exposure to UV rays is to seek out shade. When you’re indoors, try to stay in shaded areas. That's because they sun's UV rays can still penetrate through glass, so it's important to find a spot that's not in direct sunlight especially, when the rays are at their strongest.

Use Window Coverings.

Another way to protect yourself from UV rays at home is to use window coverings. By using curtains, blinds, shutters, and shades, you can help to block out the sun's harmful rays. UV-resistant window film is another option that can be used to reduce UV exposure. This will help to create an extra barrier between you and the sun's UV rays.

Replace Your Bulbs with LED

Another way to further reduce UV exposure in your home is to replace your light bulbs with LED ones. These types of bulbs emit less UV radiation than traditional incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, and they can help to reduce the amount of UV exposure in your home.

Keep Your House Cool.

Keeping your house cool will also help reduce UV ray exposure. One way is to use fans and air conditioning to help circulate the air inside your home and keep temperatures low. During the summer months, it can be difficult to stay inside all day, but using fans and air conditioning can help to make it more bearable.

Make Your Home More Energy Efficient.

Making your home a place where UV rays can’t penetrate as easily starts with making it more energy-efficient. This can be done by adding insulation, sealing windows and doors, and using energy-efficient appliances. These measures will help to keep your home cool and reduce the amount of UV rays that enter.

Protect Yourself Thoroughly from UV Rays

Staying at home doesn't excuse you from taking UV precautions. In fact, you may be surprised to know that UV rays can penetrate through glass. It isn’t necessarily enough that you wear sunscreen and loose clothing at home. You should give yourself the added protection of using LED bulbs, installing the right window coverings, and making your home more energy-efficient. Doing so will help to create a safe haven from UV rays, and it will give you the peace of mind that you are doing everything you can to protect yourself and your family.
